Dangi Youth Que:-
Dear SmrutiRanjan sir,
Happy to ask u an idea for a  imerging Society in Palamau , Jharakhand.
Kindly suggest how the Society develop and make more CS.ur suggestion will be published for encourage in Youth .Plz put some suggestion on twitter@DangiYouth
Kindly suggest also the key factors /study plan & material/ time management & reviews of full syllabus .
IAS Smruti Ranjan Reply:-
1.For preliminary examination, conceptual clarity is d most vital thing. In subjects like history ,memorizing will suffice, but in economics, geography etc,one needs to b thorough in concepts.
I was always in favour of attending maximum number of questions for high scoring.I would suggest to attempt those questions also when u r confused between 2 options.
2.For mains examination ,writing to-the-point answer with facts and examples and underlining important points will fetch more marks.proper introduction and conclusion sld b there. For my optional subject,I always tried to write thinkers more and the current relevance of the concept.
3.Interview is not the test of knowledge ,bcoz it is called as personality test..so b in ur natural mood and try to relax before facing interview board .Just think that it is just a small part of life which will become very common when you join the service. This is d phase where you hav the least control on the outcome and here your rank will b affected heavily beyond your control .Till mains examination ,you can take credit of your hard work, but in interview stage, your fate will take you forward.
Basic Books I followed besides coaching materials (vajiram and Ravi )and The Hindu :
1.History: Bipin Chandra for modern India
Ncert for post independence
Ncert for ancient India(std6,7)
No need to read medieval part as it has lost its significance in current exam pattern
Art n culture -11th Ncert,spectrum
World history-ncert,Norman Lowe
2.Geography :std 11,12 ncert (4 books)
3.polity:M.laxmikant .For governance part ,read 12th five year plan, govt schemes ,yojana, kurukhetra etc
4.Economics:Economic survey,Pratiyogita Darpan,Ramesh singh (mishra-puri,dutta sundaram can b avoided bcoz these books r not very essential for general studies.if u hav time,u can anyway refer)
5.environment:India year book, ncert. For disaster mgt,I referred to ARC report and current affairs.
6.sc nd tech :very random, preferred the Hindu, vision material, insight material .Science Reporter can come handy if time permits.
7.security:TMH book (very small book written by Ashok kumar ,IPS)
8.ethics:subba Rao ,ARC reports
9.IR:purely newspaper nd current affairs ,you can refer to columns written by C Rajamohan in the Indian express too
Frankly speaking Magazines like EPW and civil service chronicle always attracted me ,but I could not follow bcoz of time constraint.Besides that I followed certain websites (mostly govt websites, but not in a very ritual manner)
I preferred to go for self study, bcoz I thought, group study could affect me in a negative way.(time factor and gossip)
Thank you..
Those who are appearing in prelims :
Everyone has his/ her own strategy.Don't want to give any guidelines. However, I am sharing my strategy which I had followed in the past :
1.Focus has been shifted back to GS -1 unlike previous 4 years where CSAT was crucial .Many cleared pre on the basis of very high score obtained in CSAT only..Things will be completely different this year.
2.Each question carries equal marks..so don't spend more than alloted time on a single ques(for 100  questions ,you have 120 mins..so for a question ,don't spend more than a minute. It's always advantageous to finish bit early so that u sld not feel that u r running out of time at last.Ideally,in the first hour ,finish more than 50%.
3.Don't look at the watch every minute or so..Divide the time into block of 15 mins and no of questions to be answered accordingly(for 1st 15 mins,15 ques, thn after half an hour ,around 25-30 ques and so on)
4.Don't be emotionally attached to a single question ('how can I leave this!','I will solve it at any cost' etc-These sld b avoided)..As u must remember that each question carries equal mark..U are not there to prove anything to anyone else..Focus sld b to clear the exam smartly and handsomely..
5.Some tricky questions are put there to confuse the candidates..Some others are there to kill time..Don't get trapped into that.Avoid those question or leave them to attempt later if time permits .
6.In the first go,attempt those ques, whose answers  u know the best. Some difficult questions appear easier in the 2 nd go..Some answers can be found in other questions too..So don't feel panic if u don't know the answer..
7.I was always in favour of attempting maximum no of ques to maximise my score.I would always go for the answer if I am confused between two option, but guess sld b logical one..There is a difference between bluff and guess .
8.If question paper appears tough to u,it ll b the same for all ..cut off is decided accordingly..so dnt let stress to block ur mind.
9.  In 2 nd paper only 33% is needed to qualify nd it's only a qualifying paper..so ur fate will be decided purely on basis of GS-1.
10.Don't read much before the D-day and sleep early.Don't receive calls of friends and relatives. These calls  only increase stress level.
11.Don't think about other candidates or your friends who r appearing.Don't compare ur preparation level with anyone else.Have faith and confidence on ur hard work.
12.On the D-day ,don't let it get into ur mind that this is some extra ordinary day. It's just like any other day.Don't try to read anything on that day. It's ur year long effort which will help u to clear the hurdle, not 1/2 days' anxiety.
13.In these final few days before exam, try to relax more ..take breaks in between studies and take care of ur health..listen to ur favourite music ,if needed.
14.revise basic concepts and ncert .Take it easy.Think that this is not the end of life..
